Ever wondered what was really causing your eczema? What exactly is triggering your random flareups? That maybe it’s gluten, allergies, dust, dairy, stress, the weather, or bad karma from a past life?
Well you’re about to discover all that plus…
- Why you’ve tried everything to cure your eczema but nothing’s worked.
- Why experts are totally CLUELESS about it.
- Hard, scientific PROOF that backs it all up.
The big mystery
Okay, so you may have noticed that when it comes to eczema, nobody has a frikkin’ clue! Ever wondered why? I know I have.
In just 10 minutes on Google you’ll find famous and respected health bloggers, authors and even doctors that have been on TV all with their own theories on eczema, claiming to be the answer to your prayers. This used to drive me insane and it still makes me really angry. I mean, how is anyone supposed to know what to do?
Well clearly we don’t.
I remember feeling like there was a huge conspiracy going on against me. I mean, how is it possible that every doctor and natural healer in the world is so clueless about eczema?
Well there’s actually a very good reason.
As you know, just like everything else in the world, the real money is in selling the quick fix, silver bullet or magic solution to all your problems. With eczema this is usually in the form of some kind of pill, cream or supplement, but as you’ve learned the hard way, these never deliver any real improvement. Always chasing the easy and convenient solution just results in…
Never-ending confusion, pain and frustration.
The good news is that since you’ve found this site, you can finally put the past behind you. I’m going to blow the whole eczema thing wide open so I hope you’re ready. You’re in for quite a ride…
So I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that almost all the eczema advice you read falls in one of two “health philosophies”:
- The whole gluten/dairy/sugar-free thing.
- The vegetarian/vegan/raw camp.
One side swears that gluten is the enemy, and the other that meat is.
So who do you trust?
On the bright side, many eczema sufferers that try either one of these diets do see some improvement.
Maybe you have too. The only problem is…
It’s never a full recovery or permanent. Why is this? Well the sad fact is both of these approaches are only half right. They’re making huge assumptions and missing key insights that would help people eliminate their eczema forever.
But 99% of eczema-sufferers just don’t know this.
Even so-called health “experts” have no clue why these diets can help, so they can’t heal people predictably over the long term. It’s like trying to play a game of basketball without knowing the rules. Sure you’ll score some points occasionally, and you might even look like you know what you’re doing, but at the end of the day, you’ll keep getting penalised and you’ll never win.
And this is what’s happening to people all over the world suffering with eczema right now. We spend our whole lives playing a game we just don’t know the rules for and we end up paying the price for it dearly! It breaks my heart.
We have to put up with constant, crushing discomfort, our personalities slowly whither away and our dreams disintegrate on us. And the truly unbearable part is that we feel totally helpless to do a single thing about it.
But thankfully, it’s not hopeless!
The first step is to accept that it’s simply impossible to get good results from all the lame, outdated approaches to treating eczema that are out there. I mean, the mainstream eczema “treatment” of dangerous steroid creams, oral steroids and immunosuppressants has stayed practically the same for about 40 years!!! Plus they do much more harm than good over the long term.
Only in the last few years have we started to benefit from powerful advancements in medical research and it’s becoming very clear what’s working and what isn’t. This, as well as a new appreciation for ancient health and lifestyle practices means everything is finally coming together.
It’s a SUPER-exciting time to be alive!
But before we get into the nitty gritty stuff, we need to cover some groundwork…
Why do we get eczema?
Well, as you may know, the enabler of eczema (but not the real cause) is inflammation, and there are two types of it:
Acute inflammation is when you scrape your knee and it gets red, bump your toe and it swells up, or you feel really stiff after a hardcore workout. It’s a normal, healthy process that we all need. Your body is just attending to a small, local battle and squashing it. No biggie!
Chronic inflammation on the other hand, is totally different.
Instead of being a one-off event like a bruise or swelling, it’s a constant, low-level problem. In the beginning it’s almost undetectable to the person suffering with it, but over time, things slowly start going wrong.
Instead of a small-scale battle, chronic inflammation is more like a drawn-out civil war.
As you know, war is not something that’s sustainable for long periods of time. There’s nothing wrong with a small skirmish once in a while, but when a battle goes on for years, supplies dwindle and soldiers’ morale plummets.
And the same thing happens to our bodies.
When the body is in this state of chronic inflammation, 3 things happen:
1. White blood cells are produced in huge numbers to clean out the blood.
2. Histamines are produced to keep foreign substances from being absorbed.
3. Many systems of the body slowly start going haywire.
We’re simply not designed to be in “battle mode” for long periods of time like this. Our bodies prefer to get big problems out of the way as quickly as possible, and then to return to normal. But unfortunately, with our low quality modern diets, chronic inflammation has now become the norm…
Almost everyone has it.
But in the case of us eczema sufferers, the problem gets completely out of hand, causing our bodies to see totally harmless substances as invaders and even start attacking itself. This is when we get problems like allergies, asthma, hay-fever and of course, eczema.
But to really understand why our skin behaves in this strange way, we need to travel deeper.
A lot deeper…
The gut/skin connection
“All disease begins in the gut.” – Hippocrates
It’s been said as far back as ancient Egypt and Greece that the seeds of all illness start in the gut. Modern technology and the mounting cases of bad health across the Western world have finally proved this theory more right than we could have ever imagined. The connection between the gut and skin is actually so close, it’s better to just think of them as one big system.
And if you think about it, this makes perfect sense. Your skin and internal surfaces like your gut, esophagus, mouth and lips are all the same thing. It’s just that your inner surfaces are moist and the outer ones are dry. It’s just one big covering that keeps your delicate veins, blood and muscles safe from the dangers of the outside world like dust and bacteria.
As you know, the skin is the largest organ in the body and, just like the liver and kidneys, it also has a detoxifying function. So when the body has an overload of toxins, the skin chips in to help flush them out, lightening the load on the kidneys and liver.
This is why, if you look really closely at a new patch of eczema, just as the itching starts, but before a full rash appears, vesicles show up (really tiny blister-like sacs of orangey liquid). These are toxins being expelled from our body through the skin. In the same way that we pee to get rid of toxins, our skin does the same thing with sweat and pus.
Ever notice how your pee is really orange sometimes?
That means you’re getting rid of more toxins than usual and it’s also why your eczema can ooze amazing amounts of orangey- yellow liquid.
So where do all these extra toxins come from?
Well, as I’m sure you’re well aware, our entire food system is contaminated with a huge amount of toxins from a wide range of sources: things like PCBs, mercury, antibiotics and steroids.
But these are NOT the toxins I’m talking about.
While they do suck in a big way, the toxins that affect us eczema-sufferers are much more sneaky and a LOT more dangerous.
Yes, more dangerous than mercury! Let me explain…
As you know, grains are the seeds of a plant (their little babies), which means they are very precious for reproduction and are their literal lifeline if you will.
But plants are under constant attack from insects and can’t exactly run way from them.
So there was a clear, desperate need for plants to somehow prevent their babies from being eaten – and as usual, evolution came to the rescue.
Most plants now have a very specialised biological warfare weapon in the form of highly-potent toxins in their seeds. These come in the form of lectins, gluten, phytates and opioid peptides.
These are designed to damage the gut of any creature that eats them (giving them various digestive ailments) so animals would quickly learn to stay away. This left the plant’s “seed babies” free to blow in the wind or drop to the ground where they could grow more plants.
Evolution is so damn effective that it gave static, helpless plants a way to guarantee reproduction that actually works! Think about this for a second – have you ever seen a wild horse, cow or chicken eating grains?
Sure, when they’re raised in batteries and force-fed corn they have no choice, but out in the wild they stay the hell away. They know the consequences of grazing on grains from generations of instinctual conditioning so they don’t go anywhere near them.
Now, if only we were as smart as animals…
But having said all that, grains are not totally bad. Rodents and some birds have evolved to digest grains and can break down these toxins without a problem. They’ve been eating grains for millions of years so this makes perfect sense.
We on the other hand, have not.
Us humans have only been eating grains consistently for around 11 000 years, so our guts haven’t evolved to handle these toxic compounds yet. Sure, if we carry on eating them for another million years we will be able to tolerate them – that’s how evolution works. We’ve evolved to digest meat perfectly fine, so we’ll have no problem doing the same thing for grains.
Do you really want to spend your whole life eating something we clearly cannot digest yet? Foods that we know cause eczema and other severe health problems down the line?
I sure as hell don’t!
I want to live my life in full health and enjoy it. Not suffer eating toxic food for absolutely no reason!
How do grains cause these problems?
Well, as I mentioned earlier, grains irritate the lining of your gut and this causes acute inflammation (the local, healthy kind). Then, if the irritation continues over a long enough period, the gut barrier can actually become impaired. Yes, holes in your gut lining allowing whole, undigested food particles, waste and bacteria to enter your bloodstream unrestricted.
I’m sure you’ve heard the hippy health term “leaky gut” before.
The problem is this condition and term is so misunderstood, misdiagnosed and overused that it’s almost become meaningless. However, the truth remains that with our crazy, modern lifestyles most people (even 100% healthy ones) will get mild gut permeability (or leaky gut) at some point – but they usually bounce back quite quickly.
We however, don’t fair so well.
This gut/skin connection I spoke about before is so strong that in 99% of cases when someone has eczema there is an underlying gut problem as well. Studies have shown this time and time again dating all the way back to 1909, even though the established medical community ignores it to this day.
Basically you’re leaking internally, which as you can imagine, is not a good thing.
And these foreign invaders in your bloodstream are kicking your inflammation into high gear, making your skin go berserk trying to help the kidneys and liver cope with expelling the extra toxins. Then, over time, your immune system can become really confused and actually start attacking itself…
This is what’s known as autoimmunity.
Chronic eczema, asthma and allergies are all symptoms of autoimmune conditions. It’s what happens to you and me and is the reason why we often get all three of them together like some kind of cruel joke.
Basically, eczema is a glaring red signal that something is horribly wrong with you on a deep level.
I’m sorry to lay it out like that but sometimes the truth is what we really need, not some sugar-coated bullshit. I wish someone told me this stuff decades ago. The fact is you’re not in good shape right now and that’s the bad news.
The good news is it’s really simple to fix. Simple, but not easy.
Why people rarely overcome eczema…
There are two reasons for this.
The first is that few people know the stuff I’m sharing with you, which is really sad. So if you know anyone who is suffering with eczema, help them by teaching them this stuff or send them this post.
The second reason is because the gut can be a real bitch to heal.
Fixing your gut is kinda like losing weight. Some people can pack on a pound by just looking at a donut, but they’ll need a whole week in the gym to get rid of it. And the gut is very similar: it’s quick and easy to damage but takes a lot longer to heal.
It can be a real challenge.
Thankfully however, unlike losing weight, once your gut is healed up, it’s actually kinda tough to damage it again. My gut’s been in great shape for a few years now and if I eat badly, sure my skin suffers a little, but I can bounce right back within a day or two. Before I knew about this stuff I would suffer for months from just a few bites of chocolate.
The only difference is that now my gut is sealed up, whereas before it had holes in it.
So the real key here is to heal your gut in a strict, all-or-nothing blitz and once your gut is in good shape, your skin will be sooooo much easier to keep clear and looking good.
If you don’t do it this way, you’ll just keep see-sawing back and forth between minor improvement and horrific flare-ups for the rest of your life…
And that’s just no way to live!
See, solving eczema is like a band-aid – it’s better to just rip it off in one go and get it over with. This is how you can finally have perfect skin, unshakeable confidence and a fun life again.
Where’s the proof?
Through all my years of research and testing it’s totally clear to me that this is the truth about eczema. There is just no more mystery left for me.
However, I know this stuff can be a little shocking since it goes against everything the mainstream medical community talks about. If you’re a naturally skeptical person like me, you probably want to see data backing up these claims.
So here’s a graph showing the increased cases of eczema from 1964 to 2009 (study):
This was a study of 2253 school children in the UK between 9 and 12 years old who filled out a questionnaire designed to measure how many of them currently had eczema or had it in the past. This survey was repeated in 1964, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2009. The chances a child would get eczema in 1964 was around 5%. By 2010 their chances increased to 30.4%.
That’s a 6-fold increase! Depressing.
Here’s another graph, this time checking for asthma (study):
In 1964 the chances of getting asthma was about 4%. In 2009 it was 22.1% A full 5X increase!
Hayfever? An 8X increase! (study)
Now let’s compare these trends to our grain consumption over a similar period (link)…
This chart from the FDA shows the increase in the average person’s consumption (in the US) of durum flour, corn, oats and rice from 1970 to 1995:
Notice how all these trends are similar? That’s no coincidence.
Flour and corn consumption nearly tripled over this period. Unfortunately the data doesn’t continue past 1995 on this graph, because now the figures are way, way higher.
So the more grains you eat, the more poisons are swirling around inside you, the more holes there are in your gut lining and the more your immune system is attacking itself out of pure confusion and overwhelm.
This is the formula for eczema.
In terms of clinical studies on ”zero-grain” diets, the only reliable one ever conducted was by a respected French doctor named Dr. Jean Seignalet, and the results were phenomenal! (link) Success in these tests were considered to be any patient that got more than a 50% reduction in their symptoms.
Here were the results:
• Eczema: 93% success (11 people)
• Asthma: 98% success (51 people)
• Hayfever: 97% success (35 people)
So almost everyone that ate a grain-free diet in this study had their eczema halved, never mind their other symptoms.
And although though the amount of people participating in the study was quite small, these are some truly impressive results. Especially since Dr. Jean Seignalet funded and ran this study by himself with no outside help at all.
To do a study like this on a bigger scale needs massive funding which is almost impossible to get since pharmaceutical companies cannot use the data to create a new drug. This means they see no profit potential and so will never invest in it.
Look, data is great and all, but the fact is I don’t even need to show you any of this stuff. You know eczema has been increasing over the last few decades and that the quality of our diet has been decreasing too. This is nothing new to you.
A couple caveats…
Keep in mind that whenever studies are conducted or data is presented, there are a lot of issues with things like causation, correlation and data manipulation. Always be suspicious of people presenting graphs, pie charts and studies as outright facts. We’re not going for 100% proof here, just for strong clues that to lead us to the truth.
The eczema puzzle is a lot more complicated than simply avoiding grains. While grains are a huge factor, they’re not the only thing to consider.
I’m SOOO pissed!
We’re in the 2010’s and people are still being told to use moisturisers, steroid creams, wet wraps, dangerous medications, bizarre supplements and pills that mess with our immune systems. I mean seriously? When things are made this frikkin’ complicated then you know something isn’t right. Ever thought to yourself:
“There must be an easier way!”
I know I have. Thousands of times. Well the good news is there is one…
Humans have only had eczema for a few thousands years at most. This is a new thing we’re experiencing and should not be so common – not even close. Eczema only surfaces when things get really bad, but now 10% of adults and 20% of kids will get it.
This makes me really sad.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, everyone talks about eczema as if they’re experts. These are people who have never overcome it personally, don’t know the first thing about the fundamentals of health and are just regurgitating stuff they’ve read on blogs.
Reading a lot of stuff doesn’t make you an expert, getting results does.
It seems people will push almost anything on us eczema sufferers because they know we’re so unbelievably desperate that we’ll probably try it. It’s sickening. Something really needed to be done about this situation and that’s exactly why I started my website. I wanted to make a real difference to people suffering in silence out there just like I was.
This is a critical time in the history of eczema.
We’re fed up with the lies, misinformation and want real answers once and for all. Thankfully we’re slowly realising that being healthy is our default state and that we’ve unknowingly brought eczema on ourselves as a species – as much as that sucks to think about.
I believe that in this day and age it’s absolutely ridiculous for anyone on the planet to have to suffer with this painful, torturous condition.
It’s simply unacceptable!
So let’s quickly evaluate our other treatment options…
The problem with mainstream medicine
I’m sure this is not news to you, but traditional, modern medicine is deeply flawed.
Medical schools are funded by the big pharmaceutical companies like Merck and Pfizer and this means they have a lot of influence over the treatments that doctors are taught to prescribe.
Drug companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year “incentivising” doctors to prescribe their latest drugs by offering them plane tickets, holidays and all kinds of other gifts. It’s a hugely profitable business so they can afford to grease the wheels as much as possible.
In a nutshell, drug companies are bribing doctors to sell their products, not to heal.
Interestingly, the only way a company can sell a drug is if they hold the intellectual property over it. This means they have to invent a brand new chemical compound in a lab that has never existed before. They can’t take ownership over garlic or chicken soup (even though they’re desperately trying to) because they already exist. So they need to constantly invent new drugs to keep making money.
The effect of all this is that doctors prescribe useless and harmful creams to us eczema sufferers and make absolutely no attempt to solve the real, underlying problems causing it.
Here’s the unspoken mantra of the pharmaceutical industry:
Now, having said all that, modern medicine is not completely evil. It’s truly excellent at dealing with certain issues. If you break a leg, a doctor puts it in a cast and you’ll be walking again in 6 months. If your heart fails, they can pop in a new one. When surgery can help, modern medicine is amazing and has extended human life drastically in the last few hundred years.
Fact is, without it our quality of life would not be very high.
However, when it comes to subtle bodily functions like hormones, blood health, viruses and inflammatory conditions, mainstream medicine is almost completely useless. It’s as if doctors are stumbling around drunk in the dark trying to treat us.
“Treat the symptoms enough to shut them up but
not so much that they stop paying us.”
And this usually results in us visiting our dermatologist for years until one day it dawns on us that we know more about eczema than they do.
This is when we face the harsh reality that we need to take matters into our own hands, which is great. But it’s also when the real frustration begins. Information overload, analysis paralysis and a deep fear of never overcoming our eczema makes the task hellishly tough.
Many years ago in rural China, doctors were only paid if they managed to keep you healthy. If you got sick they would treat you for free until you were better and only then would you start paying them again. This seems completely crazy to us Westerners, but if you think about it, almost every other business in the whole world uses this principle. You pay for a result, and if you don’t get that result, you get a refund. Simple. Yet somehow when it comes to medicine we’ve been brainwashed to accept that paying doctors to keep us sick is normal.
Their dark secret is, if you suddenly become healthy, there is no way for drug companies to make money from you and they lose you as a long-term income stream. So naturally they try to avoid this as much as possible.
However, that’s not to say natural medicine is perfect…
The problem with natural medicine
The US spends more than 34 billion dollars each year on alternative therapies, hoping to get some relief. Natural medicine is increasingly being seen as the answer to every issue that traditional medicine can’t solve.
But unfortunately, it’s not nearly as effective as we hoped it would be.
Many people think that natural substances are safe and have no side effects. But just because something is natural, doesn’t mean it’s good for us. Cyanide is a completely natural compound yet it can kill a person in just a few minutes.
This has resulted in some truly ridiculous eczema treatments being touted these days like juicing, detoxes, raw diets, exotic supplements, urine therapy and hundreds more that all promise to cure your eczema with no side effects.
If this were true, then eczema wouldn’t exist and we would all be healthy and happy. But clearly we’re not. We put our faith in natural medicine, and while there are a small handful of truly great remedies out there for various things like colds or flu, overall it’s well and truly failed us almost as badly as mainstream medicine has. The reason it became so popular in the first place is because of the same thinking that still feeds the mainstream medical industry today:
“I want a pill to make it all okay.”
The truth is we all have a lazy side to us, and the idea of working hard for something can make us want to take the easy way out. We’re so busy and overwhelmed by life that we want something or someone else to solve our problems for us.
It’s not our fault or a bad thing, it’s just the way our brains work. There’s only so much info we can process and so many decisions we can make each day.
So the bad news is, just like mainstream medicine, natural medicine is holding you back and making your healing journey take far longer than it needs to.
We don’t need to add drugs or herbs to get rid of our eczema, we need to eliminate toxins the toxins we’re already pumping into our bodies.
When I was younger I used to think being cool was the most important thing in the whole world, but I quickly realised that how you feel about yourself is much more important.
Then, as I got a little older I thought money was the answer, so I worked all the time. And when I finally did get a little money, I didn’t have any time to enjoy it.
A few years later my big revelation was that time was the most important thing in life seeing as though it’s a limited resource and we’re all gonna die eventually. But when I spent all my time being unhealthy, unhappy and miserable, I finally realised that…
Heath is all we ever truly have.
Your health is the basis on which everything in your life is built – youth, money and friends all mean nothing if you’re feeling too miserable to enjoy them. And trying to improve in those areas? Whew! Well that becomes an epic struggle when you feel like crap.
So I ask you:
What are your dreams? Do you want to…
• Travel to cool countries?
• Write a bestselling book?
• Start a successful business?
Going after our dreams is what makes us feel alive, but eczema makes us withdraw, settle for less and slowly give up on them. We’re starving for adventure, fun and passion in our lives and this should just not happen.
So I want you to try something: I want you to start thinking about your dreams again. Start listening to that little voice inside that says: “I want THAT!!!”. Let it speak and start making plans to go after your dreams. Because once your eczema is gone you’re going to feel incredible!
All the work I’ve ever done on my health makes my life richer every single day and will do until I die. Every day I wake up and appreciate my life to the deepest level possible because I’ve seen both sides. And I want you to feel the same thing.
I believe all we really want is to be happy.
We don’t want a fancy car, a model boyfriend/girlfriend or a mansion. We don’t give a damn about any of that stuff! We just want the happiness that we think these things will bring us.
Think about the last time you bought something you’d wanted for a long time. Something you obsessed over and really believed would make your life complete. Maybe it was the new iPhone or a pair of shoes.
And once you finally got it, how long were you happy for?
Two days? A week? A month? It’s usually not very long. Our brains adjust to material things really quickly so happiness like this is always short-lived. We end up taking it for granted quite quickly and our lives return back to normal.
Yet, for some reason, we still spend our entire lives striving for things that are not going to bring us the long-term happiness that we want. It’s insane! Happiness comes from within, and as cheesy as that sounds, it also happens to be 100% true.
When you’re healthy you’re feeling good, smiling, full of energy and beaming so people want to be around you – you’re magnetic. On the other hand, when your skin is getting you down it’s MUCH harder to connect with people, relax and have fun. This means you get less positive energy from people, making you feel even worse.
When you’re suffering, everything feels like trudging through quicksand. You never seem to be able to get what you want and the world denies you everything.
It’s a harsh downward spiral and it’s HELL!
So I’m here to tell you that when your skin is a mess, when you’re at rock bottom, and finally manage to claw your way out of it all, life becomes a blessing. You start to experience everything differently and see the world in a whole new way.
Your relationships, career and hobbies all take on a new energy and your life quickly starts to improve.
I strongly believe that being happy is the default human condition and so is being healthy – the two are inseparably linked.
Become healthier, and you will feel much happier.
When you have eczema, the single best thing you can do for yourself is to get rid of it. This is where your effort will have the most positive impact on your life, without a doubt.
I hope you found this post eye-opening and that it’s given you some hope. If you know someone who is suffering with eczema, feel free to send this post to them.
